Art Basel Miami Beach runs 4–6 December 2026 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with VIP preview days immediately before it and the wider Miami Art Week spread across the city from roughly 30 November. For three or four days the whole of Miami Beach reorganises itself around the fair, and moving between venues becomes the hardest part of the week.
This is a practical guide to getting around during Art Basel: where the fairs actually sit, which roads stop working, and how most of our clients end up booking the week.
The dates
- Art Basel Miami Beach: 4–6 December 2026, Miami Beach Convention Center
- VIP and preview days: the two days immediately before the public opening, by invitation
- Miami Art Week: roughly 30 November – 6 December, across Miami Beach, Wynwood, the Design District and Downtown
Preview days are quieter on the roads but concentrated around the Convention Center. The public days are when the causeways and Washington Avenue genuinely seize up.
Why Art Basel breaks transport
Three things happen at once. The Convention Center sits in the middle of Miami Beach rather than on its edge, so traffic for the fair runs through the same streets everyone else is using. The satellite fairs are deliberately spread across the mainland, which means crossing a causeway several times a day. And the evening programme — openings, dinners, private views — runs late, at exactly the hours rideshare pricing is worst and driver availability is thinnest.
The practical result is that a journey you measured at fifteen minutes in November takes forty in the first week of December, and the return leg at 11pm may not be available at any price.
Where the fairs actually are
Miami Beach Convention Center. The main fair. Approaches along Washington Avenue and Convention Center Drive slow to walking pace during opening and closing hours. We agree a collection point away from the main exit flow rather than at the door.
Wynwood and the Design District. Most of the satellite fairs and gallery programming. Street parking is scarce in normal weeks and effectively gone during Art Basel. Our guide to Miami neighbourhoods covers realistic travel times between these areas and the beach.
Downtown and Brickell. Hotel base for a lot of visitors, plus evening events. The causeway crossing back to Miami Beach is the bottleneck.
How most clients book the week
Point-to-point transfers work when you know both ends and the timing. Art Basel is the opposite: the schedule changes during the day, an opening runs long, someone suggests a dinner in another neighbourhood.
For that reason most Art Basel work is booked as hourly charter rather than individual trips. The vehicle and chauffeur are yours for a block of time, coats and bags stay in the car between venues, and the route changes as the day does. There is no renegotiating a price at midnight and no waiting on a pavement in Wynwood for a driver who may cancel.

Arriving for Art Basel
Miami International is the closest major airport and the usual arrival point. Fort Lauderdale often carries cheaper fares and works the same way for us, allowing roughly 45 minutes more. A significant amount of Art Basel traffic arrives by private aviation, and we collect from FBOs and private terminals directly — give us the tail number or the operator and the pickup is arranged around the aircraft.
See airport transfers for how arrivals are handled, including flight tracking and meet and greet.
Book early — earlier than feels necessary
Art Basel week sells out every chauffeur operator in the city, not just us. A fortnight ahead is comfortable. The week before is optimistic. The day before, during Art Basel, is usually too late at any price.
Common questions
When exactly is Art Basel Miami Beach 2026?
4 to 6 December 2026 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with invitation-only preview days immediately before. The wider Miami Art Week programme runs from around 30 November through 6 December.
Should I book by the hour or as separate transfers?
By the hour, for almost everyone. Art Basel days rarely run to plan, and hourly charter means the car waits rather than you re-booking at every venue. Separate transfers only make sense if you have one fixed trip each way.
Where will the car collect me at the Convention Center?
At a point agreed before the day, chosen to sit outside the main exit flow rather than inside it. You get the location and the chauffeur’s mobile number by text.
How far in advance should I book?
At least two weeks for Art Basel week. Vehicles across the whole city are committed early, and late requests frequently cannot be filled at all.
Can you cover the satellite fairs in Wynwood and the Design District?
Yes. Moving between the beach and the mainland fairs is the main reason people book a chauffeur for Art Basel rather than travelling venue by venue.
