Miami neighbourhoods, and getting between them

Where we collect, how long it really takes, and what to know before you book.

Distance in Miami is measured in minutes, not miles

Miami is spread out and the traffic is unpredictable. Two neighbourhoods four miles apart can be twelve minutes or forty, depending on the causeway, the hour and whether anything is happening downtown. This is a working guide to the areas we cover most and what to expect getting between them.

Miami Beach and South Beach

Where we are based. Ocean Drive, Collins and Washington run the length of it, and all three slow to walking pace on weekend evenings. Allow extra time getting off the island between 5pm and 8pm on a Friday. Roughly 25 minutes to Miami International in normal traffic.

Brickell

Miami’s financial district, and the source of most weekday corporate work. Dense, vertical and difficult to park in, which is why so much of it is chauffeur-driven. Around 20 minutes from Miami Beach outside rush hour, considerably more during it.

Downtown Miami

Adjacent to Brickell and home to the Kaseya Center and PortMiami. When there is an event downtown, everything around it slows, including the routes to the cruise terminals.

Wynwood and the Design District

Galleries, restaurants and nightlife, and the centre of gravity during Art Basel. Street parking is scarce and the area fills quickly on event evenings, so most people book a chauffeur for the night rather than move car by car.

Coral Gables

Quieter, greener and more residential, with a business district of its own. Around 30 minutes from Miami Beach. A common pickup for corporate clients who live away from the coast.

Coconut Grove

Waterfront, walkable and slower-paced. Popular for dinners and private events, and a regular stop on evening bookings.

Key Biscayne

Reached only by the Rickenbacker Causeway, which means one route in and one route out. During the Miami Open the causeway backs up badly, and journey times can double.

Aventura and Sunny Isles

North of Miami Beach and closer to Fort Lauderdale. If you are staying here, FLL is often the more sensible airport, and we quote accordingly.

Doral

Inland and business-heavy, close to Miami International. Frequent for corporate travel and conference work.

Booking between neighbourhoods

Point-to-point works when you know both ends. For an evening across several areas, hourly charter costs less and removes the waiting. For arrivals, see airport transfers.
